As the world awaits to celebrate world refugee day, join me to remember the thousands of our brothers and sisters that have been displace in Uganda by the northern war. Uganda is a country that has been hit by a war between the rebel Joseph Kony and the Government for over 20 years now. This war has been characterised by brutal murders, child kidnapping, sexual abuse, massive destruction of social and economic infrastructure in the northern part of the country. We have incidents whereby people's throats have been cut open, their private parts slashed off. The most agonising was one in which the rebels burnt people alive in pots. Today we have over a million people living in displaced camps in Uganda. These people need our moral support as we celebrate this day.

HIV/AIDS AND STIGMA IN UGANDA
Related to country: Uganda

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Despite numerous attempts by the Ugandan Government to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS, Stigma is still a major problem, both to the patient and the caretaker. According to Mugisha Kemirembe of Mildmay Uganda, Majority of the patients come to the clinic in stage three of disease progression, with multiple opportunistic infections and would usually be forced to the clinic by the relatives. The patients who presented early were characterized with false identity, multiple registrations with different names to avoid being known. They would try to get out of the centre as soon as possible, usually not completing all the necessary care procedures. Some families refuse to take patients to the clinic for fear of being associated with HIV/AIDS themselves.
Some religious faiths in Uganda act as a deterrent to seeking HIV/AIDS care at all or early enough. Despite the massive education in Uganda, still some HIV/AIDS patients decline to go to health care centers because of stigma. There is need for more education and counseling about living positively. Some religious faiths and cultures need to be negated so as to fit into the modern health care systems, especially in the prevention and care of HIV/AIDS.

NB: The Author recognizes the research of Mugisha Kemirembe e-tal which was used as a case study .

Anybody been to Morongoro? Heard of that place? Well i know you havent been there save for my brothers and sisters of Tanzania. Morogoro is a land blessed with rare species. If you happen to be a tourist then plan to visit this place because you will be amazed at how wonderful God's creations are. Personally am Ugandan and i happened to go for a retreat there. I was surprised to find frogs that walk on fours. Forget then ones that hop,hop and hop, jump, jump and jump. In Morogoro these frogs walk. Infact this is the only place in the entire world where such a species of frogs is found. Amazing!!!! Its was an adventerous journey and i plan to revisit sometime. You know what i believe that paradise is on earth.
